A good example of email list building by PRWEB

I'm a big fan of PRWEB.com and have used them over the years to release online news releases.

They're also pretty good marketers. I noticed this ad earlier today when I was on Facebook (during my break of course!)

list building What I liked about this ad is that it is clearly designed to build their list.

You can tell because the "Download Writing Great Online News Releases" offer is a powerful offer.

The kind of offer that you might be interested in if you wanted to "learn the secrets of building your business with news."  The benefit statement in the ad makes it even stronger.

I wasn't disappointed when I arrived on the PRWEB page.  I was presented with a pretty good quality landing page designed to move me to give up my email address.

A classic and proper offer.

PRWEB email optin offer page

This is a very good example of a list building strategy that works like a charm.

Make a good offer in an ad targeted to your audience.

It doesn't matter if your ad is displayed in Google or Facebook as long as you are reaching your audience.

It does matter that you have a good offer and your landing page gives your visitors a good reason to signup and take your offer.

We always recommend that you track your conversion numbers all along the way.  You'll know how many saw the ad, how many clicked on it, how many visited the landing page, how many signed up, and how many became customers.

It doesn't get any better than this!

Hi Mitch, great article. Hope you don't mind, I've got a question or two about the list-building method. First, I agree, the offer to download the report is a strong incentive.

My question is, what happens "after" the sign-up and subsequent download? I have been to dozens of web sites where I refused to sign-up by giving up my email address even though I really wanted to take a peek (if not outright have) the enticement offered.

Why did I refuse? They were clearly a squeeze page, which isn't a bad thing in itself, it's just that I literally had no idea what they were going to do with my address EXCEPT bombard me with offers afterwards. (Ask me how I know! Needless to say, I am now gun-shy about doing it and have had to create throw-away addresses just to keep the sp*m down.)

In other words the squeeze page sold me on the offer, but not the reason for being on their mailing list. How would you go about constructing an offer that enhances the reason for WANTING to be on the mail list and receiving email contact vs using bait that may or may not have anything to do with being a target audience for your service or product? This would just be dead weight on your list.

Sorry that was a bit long winded. But how do you make sure the person who signs up wants to be there, AND is an appropriate target audience (and not just doing it for the bait)?

Sincerely,
Dorian Greer

Thanks Dorian. Good (longish) question!
Sounds like the squeeze page almost did it's job. The one objection you still had was "How do I know I'm not going to get hammered with spammy offers?"
Best best, say so on the landing page. Then that fear is put aside.
Also, although other autoresponders are a series of promo messages we don't suggest that strategy. Be different and use the autoresponder messages to show some interest, empathy, helpfulness, and build some credibility so when you do send offers they are better received.
Cheers,
Mitch

Anytime I come across this type of marketing I always create a disposable email address just for this purpose. I wonder how many others do the same and so then all your subsequent marketing efforts are basically a waste of time.

We like to honor many other internet sites on the web, even if they aren’t linked to us, by linking to them. Under are some webpages worth checking out.
